How to Choose the Right Shipping Container for Your Business
Shipping containers are becoming increasingly popular for businesses in need of flexible and affordable storage solutions, restaurants, temporary office spaces, or even as part of their supply chain for shipping. But with different sizes, and conditions, how do you know which container is the right one? Here’s a guide to help you choose the perfect container for your business!1. Why do you need one?
Before you start comparing containers, it’s important to define the purpose of the container. Are you looking for storage, shipping, or looking to make a business (retail, restaurant, or office) out of a container? Understanding your needs will narrow down the options and help you focus on what matters most!-
-
- Storage: Do you need a container for long-term or short-term storage of inventory, equipment, or supplies?
- Shipping: Will the container be used for international or local transportation of goods?
- Customized Space: Are you looking to create a mobile or temporary office, showroom, or retail space?
-
2. What size do you need?
Shipping containers come in various sizes; we, at UsedConex, offer 20ft and 40ft standard, and 40ft high cube (a foot taller) containers. Consider the amount of space you’ll need for your goods, the space available on your property, and any delivery restrictions.-
-
- 20ft Containers: Ideal for smaller businesses or those with limited space.
- 40ft Containers: Perfect for larger storage needs, inventory, shipping operations, or if you wanted to convert the container into a retail or office space.
- 40ft High Cube Containers: These are similar in length to the 40ft container but are taller by one foot (9ft 6in instead of 8ft 6in), providing extra storage height. They’re ideal for businesses that need to store taller items or require additional vertical space for stacking goods. This extra height is very useful for bulky inventory or when you plan to convert the container for different purposes like office spaces or retail setups.

3. What type of container do you need?
Shipping containers are available in different conditions, each with varying costs and durability. The grades we have available are:-
-
- New or One-Trip Containers: These are almost as good as new, having only been used for one trip across the ocean. They’re great for businesses needing a like-new condition for shipping or storage, especially when presentation matters.
- Used, Cargo-Worthy (CW): These containers are used but still in good condition, suitable for storage or shipping goods that don’t require a pristine look.
- Used, Wind and Water Tight (WWT): These containers are older, but they still provide secure storage. They may show signs of wear and tear, such as rust or dents, but are perfect for budget-conscious businesses. However, they can’t be used for shipping goods.
